Axalp Technologies supported Dufour Aerospace with the design and fabrication of custom folding propeller blades for their Aero-200 tilt-wing aircraft.
For Dufour’s folding propeller mechanism, Axalp Technologies designed an optimized blade structure to maximize performance within tight constraints of geometry and weight. Axalp’s in-house software tools allow us to cover the entire tradespace, so propeller designs are optimized at the system level, not just in one area. Axalp’s rapid prototyping capabilities then came into play, producing a batch of custom carbon-fiber blades to meet Dufour’s ground and flight testing schedule.
Dufour’s folding propeller system for the Aero-200 was developed to improve cruise efficiency during long-range missions. While large propellers are essential for hover and vertical takeoff, they create unnecessary drag once the platform transitions into forward flight. By folding the outer propellers during cruise while the inboard pair continue providing forward thrust, the Aero-200 is designed to maximize aerodynamic efficiency and extend operational range.
Axalp Technologies is proud to support Dufour for the optimization and fabrication of their folding propeller system. It is exciting to be able to contribute to the Aero-200 and the unique capabilities it brings to medical transport, search & rescue, and other missions.
